A city schoolboy got the chance to work alongside one of Liverpool’s leading hairdressers.
Joel Riley, 12, from Garston, spent a day shadowing celebrity hairdresser Herbert Howe at his salon on Hanover Street.
The Enterprise South Liverpool Academy pupil had initially asked to meet Herbert, but the famous stylist decided to go one better and give him an insight into the world of work.
Herbert said: “I decided to give Joel a day’s experience at the salon after finding out he is infatuated with the business and would like to meet me.
“His attention to detail and concentration during the day was amazing.
“I’ve given other kids work experience previously who have gone on to run their own salons.
“It’s fantastic to see kids interested in work because it doesn’t happen as often these days.”
During the day Joel learned how to mix dyes and bond hair extensions, along with many other tips and tricks of the business.
Joel’s mum Sandra said the day had only increased her son’s eagerness to join the profession.
She said: “He’s been interested in hairdressing since being a baby.
“He was delighted to spend a day with the hairdressers and definitely wants to be one now.”
