CASUALTY star Sunetra Sarker teasingly said Liverpool girls will adore her head-turning outfit next week as she avoided being sent home on Strictly Come Dancing.
The Liverpool actress and her professional partner Brendan Cole survived the dance-off against Judy Murray and Anton Du Beke during last night’s Blackpool special.
Sunetra, from West Derby, beat Andy Murray’s tennis coach mum, who had baffled some Twitter users including Lord Alan Sugar by managing to stay out of the bottom two in previous weeks.
The 41-year-old she felt “on top of the tower” after performing in the historic building and added: “Getting through to Blackpool was such a privilege, it was really nice.
“I’ve been so fortunate to get to Blackpool and I was getting excited about [the next performance] – it’s the costume, all the Scouse girls will love it.”
“Anton and Brendan are close. Me and Judy are close, so it was a really “difficult” situation to be in.”
Speaking before she won over all four judges, she said: “If it’s the last dance I ever do, at least I left with three eights.
“I’m just going to have to dig deep and enjoy it. I am in Blackpool and it is an experience of a lifetime. It will be fun.”
The former Brookside star said: “I’ve never danced in Blackpool before, I’ve never danced like this before, so for me to do it twice is actually quite nice to get to dance twice in Blackpool. It’s a fair comment for me to be here.”
Judge Craig Revel Horwood had said her samba was “disconnected” and “heavy at times” on Saturday night. He said: “It was all over the shop. I felt you were struggling with this one.”
But he was rooting for her to give a better performance in the dance-off and keep her place in the competition.
He told her during Sunday’s results show: “I know I was really hard on you and the reason I was hard on you is because I believe in you and I think you are a very good dancer. And I want you to go out there and smash it darling.”
The BBC One programme was broadcast live from the Blackpool Tower Ballroom.
Sunetra and Brendan scored 30 out of a possible 40 from the judges, which was combined with the results of the viewers’ votes.
There are eight celebrities left on the show, including television presenter Caroline Flack, reality TV star Mark Wright and The Saturdays singer Frankie Bridge.
