HE’S one of the early favourites to win this year’s series of I’m A Celebrity (and it hasn’t even started yet).
In fact, ask fellow Coronation Street star Simon Gregson, and Liverpool’s Craig Charles is a dead cert to be crowned King of the Jungle.
But Craig, pictured in his safari kit, has admitted not everyone was quite as confident his cheeky chappy humour would impress viewers.
He jokes his two daughters pleaded with him NOT to be himself in the camp when the extreme reality show starts on ITV at 9pm tonight.
“When I told my daughters, I said I would go in there and be myself,” he explains. “My daughters said ‘no dad, be anyone but you!’
“They are chuffed, excited and scared! I am either going to be a cool dad or an embarrassing dad!”

The actor, who also starred in Red Dwarf, kept the fact he was going into the show a secret from all of his Corrie co-stars but confided in best pal Simon, who plays Steve McDonald in the soap, a few days before he jetted to Australia.
“He is going to put a fiver on me,” jokes Craig.
The 50-year-old joins celebs including ex-footballer Jimmy Bullard, who is just ahead of Craig as favourite to win, rapper Tinchy Stryder, news anchor Michael Buerk and TOWIE star Gemma Collins. TV presenter Melanie Sykes, motorbike champion Carl Fogarty, ‘Allo ‘Allo actress Vicki Michelle, model Nadia Forde and former Playboy bunny Kendra Wilkinson will also be vying to win.
Craig admits he will be missing his eldest daughter’s 17th birthday but she gave him the OK to go in the jungle.
Insider is sure he can pick up something special in the duty free shop on the way home to make up for it.
