Pop princess Madonna sent fans on social media into a frenzy after posting pictures of celebrities such as John Lennon to promote her new album.
The 56-year-old took to Instagram and Twitter to share snaps of celebrities who she considers to be “great heros’, with Liverpool legend John Lennon included.
The celebrities’ faces have been edited so that they have black straps running across them to match a picture of Madonna with the same effect for her Rebel Heart album.
She captioned the picture of John Lennon with, “I would like to thank all my fans for recreating my album cover with the Rebel Heart ribbon on the faces of so many Great Hero’s.
“It shows that you are also celebrating and in admiration of these great freedom fighters! When I repost these images i am saying YES!
“These people are all Rebel Hearts in one way or another from Martin Luther King to Jesus to Nelson Mandela to John Lennon. YES! Lets celebrate them! The world needs more people like them.
“I hope to one day accomplish. 1100th of what these Rebel Hearts have accomplished. As I Said in a previous post “I walk in the footsteps of Giants” and i will continue to do so G*D willing. They are my guiding light. #rebelheart #livingforlove.”
Some fans reacted by asking Madonna to remove the photos and said branded her “disrespectful” for uploading them.
Other famous faces that were shared on the pop star’s social media accounts were Nelson Mandela, Martin Luther King, Marilyn Monroe, Princess Diana, Bob Marley, Jesus, Miley Cyrus and Jean-Michel Basquiat.
