Season Two of Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare has been live for over 24 hours now, and players are still discovering the various delights hidden within the surprisingly chunky update. Tucked away within the new modes, returning maps, and shiny new weapons is a brand-new – surprisingly brutal – dismemberment animation.
As you can from the video below, players killed by enemies on a killstreak can now get their heads blown clean off. It really is a rather spectacular display of gore, at least by Call Of Duty’s usual standards. Not that CoD is traditionally a family franchise. Obviously it isn’t afraid to get gory from time to time… it just doesn’t often get this bloody.
If you’re faint of heart and don’t fancy being subjected to heads popping like day-old grapes, there is an option to switch dismemberment and gore effects off in the options menu. However, if you’re into your fights being as violent and visceral as possible, get stuck in.
While the majority of the Modern Warfare community seem pretty pleased with this bloody new animation, there are still some who aren’t best pleased with the sheer size of the Season Two update. It was an incredible 51GB on PS4, 64GB on Xbox One, and a pretty ludicrous 94GB on PC.
Infinity Ward Production Director Paul Haile took to Twitter yesterday to attempt to explain the hefty file size to unhappy fans. He promised that part of why the latest update was so big is because it includes new asset packs that’ll reduce the overall size of the game and lead to smaller updates in future. That’s the plan, anyway.
In other Modern Warfare Season Two news, the latest in-game cinematic contains a handful of interesting clues that seem to confirm the long-rumoured battle royale mode. Fans are convinced that the massive map at the end of the video, as well as the appearance of a mysterious new mode in the main menu, point towards an impending battle royale reveal.
Certainly, when paired with last year’s substantial datamine and a series of other recent leaks, it looks an awful lot like Activision is gearing up to finally announce one of the worst kept secrets in gaming.
