Season Two of Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare is set to go live a little later today. As with the popular shooter’s first season of content, expect a ton of new maps, modes, weapons, operators, and other goodies. The good news is that it’ll all be available for free and (most of it) will arrive on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC at the same time so as not to split the community based on who owns what platform.
You’re probably already aware of the fact that Sony has a deal with Activision to ensure that the PS4 version of Modern Warfare has at least some exclusive content under its belt. You may also remember the ugly reaction to the news that the game’s Spec Ops Survival mode would be exclusive to Sony’s console for a whole year, for example.
In a recent blog post shared by PlayStation, we now know what exclusive content PS4 owners can look forward to in Season Two. The aforementioned Survival mode is getting a brand new map called Azhir Cave, as well as an exclusive Weapon Blueprint: Lucky Strike.
“Enter the desert wasteland of Azhir Cave to battle waves of opponents,” PlayStation said of the new map. “The layout of Azhir Cave gives players different ways to experience the match and fight for Survival. Take to the cave to smoke out enemies, set traps, and block and control entry points.”
“Or, players can find the high ground on the southwest of the map near the Coalition spawn in Multiplayer and try and funnel enemies to the valley below for easier eliminations. Discover the new ways to experience Azhir Cave while battling in Survival.”
Meanwhile, Lucky Strike is described as a Legendary LMG Blueprint can be earned through an exclusive mission. Much like Season One’s Jack Frosty Blueprint, players will need to head to the Missions tab in Barracks to activate the new mission. From there, complete a series of challenges to earn XP and add the Blueprint to your collection.
As far as exclusive content goes, Xbox and PC players aren’t really being left out in the cold this time. A Weapon Blueprint is hardly the most dazzling extra, while the new map is only available on a mode that’s been exclusive to PS4 owners since launch. Okay, so Xbox and PC players might be a little bummed out to be reminded of that little fact, actually.
Regardless, there’s plenty for everyone to enjoy in Season Two of Modern Warfare. Rust and Ghost from 2009’s Modern Warfare 2 are returning, and there are plenty of other new maps and modes to enjoy as the season progresses.
