Actress Jennifer Metcalfe was left a ‘total mess’ during upcoming scenes in Hollyoaks .
The actress who plays character Mercedes McQueen is to face heartbreak after discovering her unborn baby has died.
The McQueen’s family most infamous daughter is to learn her baby has tragically died after she visits the hospital after noticing she hasn’t felt any movement from the baby all day.
Speaking to the Star, the actress told them after reading the script she was left in ‘floods of tears’.
She said: “I got that lump in my throat and that was it. By the end of it all I was a mess.”
The Channel 4 soap worked closely with Count the Kicks, a charity who aims to help mums with knowledge and confidence throughout their pregnancy and charity Sands, who help support anyone who has been affected by the death of a baby.
In a statement to DigitalSpy, Jennifer said: “I’m honoured to have been given this storyline to raise awareness of such an important cause.
“The scripts are brilliantly written by Anna Clements and with the help of the two charities, I was able to really understand what Mercedes is going through.”
Jennifer did minimal rehearsals so as not to ‘wear out the true meaning of the words’ and she described the emotional script as ‘so brilliantly written’.
The storyline will also see the full-time return of Myra McQueen, Mercede’s mother.
Hollyoaks airs weeknights at 6.30pm on Channel 4, with first-look episodes following at 7pm on E4.
