Former Brookside actress Jennifer Ellison has admitted she used sunbeds for 15 minutes every day – despite being worried about skin cancer.
The Dance Mum’s UK star has revealed she was “so desperate” to get a tan, she used to cake herself in oil and use a home sunbed every day.
Speaking during an appearance on Loose Women today, she said: “My mum used to have one in the house. It’s like cigarettes, now everyone knows the dangers.
“I got onto Brookside when I was 12, so I used to sneak on them from when I was 14 and did 15 minutes with oil every day.”
“I’ve burnt so many times, like, crispy,” she admitted. “They can’t even be that hygienic, everyone has been sweating on them. Every street corner had a sunbed shop back then.”
The 33-year-old actress, who now runs a performing arts school, ended up worrying about getting cancer after her mum and uncle had scares.
She said: “I’m covered in moles and stuff. I thought, ‘This has got to stop’.”
Jennifer later developed her own self tan and no longer goes on sunbeds to achieve her Essex-style glow.
The Scouse beauty, who is known for being a yo-yo dieter, appeared on TV show Sugar Free Farm and said although it’s a struggle not eating sugary drinks, the weight has fallen off since she gave them up.
She said: “This time I’m changing my lifestyle so [the weight] is going to take a lot longer to come off.
“But hopefully, it will stay off. I’m giving myself a goal of two years.
“I don’t want to fluctuate all my life as I’ve done every fad diet under the sun and as soon as you start eating properly again, you put it all back on. I’m already known as a yo yo dieter.”
