Rose Tico actress Kelly Marie Tran has discussed the fan reaction to her stint in last year’s Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.
After being introduced during Rian Johnson’s The Last Jedi, Kelly’s character was supposed to have a “big” new role in the trilogy-closer, but her screentime was eventually cut down to little more than a cameo.
Walking the Oscars red carpet on Sunday (February 9), MTV News spoke to the actress about the situation.

“Last Jedi was my first movie, you know? So I think I’m finally starting to realise that when you’re in something of that calibre, there’s so many people working to make something out of love,” she said.
“And no matter what you do, there’s always gonna be people that aren’t happy with that.
“But I think that the best lesson I’ve learned is just to have fun and be present in the moment. So I’m really grateful that I got to be part of it.”
Quizzed on whether she was happy with how her Rise of Skywalker part ended up, Kelly responded: “I mean, I think that I’m really just amazed at the way that JJ [Abrams] was able to sort of wrap up all these incredible stories.
“There were so many characters. You know, at the end of the day I got to be part of something bigger than me, and that’s really special.”
Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is out now.
