Soap characters can come to feel like friends and family for fans of the shows, and when someone leaves it can feel like a major blow.
Viewers in Merseyside are never short of an opinion about the characters who inhabit their cobbled streets, corner shops and local pubs.
Now the characters soap fans would most like to see return to their screens – and those they’re happy to consign to TV history – have been revealed.
Coronation Street’s Becky McDonald topped the list as the soap character we would most like to see return in the poll of over 1,000 Brits by WhichBingo, following her dramatic exit from the cobbles in 2012.
Becky famously exposed Tracy Barlow’s lies at her wedding to Steve McDonald, before jetting off to Barbados with a first class ticket, leaving one in four Brits screaming for her to come back to fictional Greater Manchester.
However, it’s unlikely actress Katherine Kelly, who played Becky, will be looking for a return, having taken on a range of popular roles, from Mr Selfridge to Happy Valley, since leaving the soap.
Among the other soap stars the public want to grace their screens again are Eastenders hardman Grant Mitchell and Corrie’s Janice Battersby, who came second and third respectively.
Grant Mitchell, played by Ross Kemp, briefly returned to Albert Square earlier in the year to confront his younger brother Phil. But, judging by the results, his stint was too short lived, with almost a quarter (23%) of Brits saying they wanted Grant to return to his old stomping ground in Walford.
Janice Battersby, played by Vicky Entwistle, left Corrie after a 14 year stint in 2011 when she went travelling with her boyfriend, but more than one in five (22%) soap fans would love to see her back in Weatherfield.

Hollyoaks didn’t fare so well in the survey, with none of Chester’s finest making the most wanted to return list.
Bottom of the list was Emmerdale’s Steph Stokes though, with only 4% of people surveyed saying they’d like to see her return to the famous village.
The controversial character, played by Lorraine Chase, endured a lot of dramatic storylines during her time on the soap, which ended with Steph being sent to prison after being wrongfully accused of murdering her brother Terence.
