PizzaExpress is launching a Willy Wonka style hunt, but instead of golden tickets, you’ll need to keep your eyes peeled for golden dough balls worth £1,000.
The pizza chain will be stashing 55 golden dough balls to mark its 55th birthday and each one can win £1,000 in PizzaExpress gift cards – that’s a lot of carbs.
The golden dough balls will gradually be hidden from National Pizza Day on Sunday 9 February until Friday 27 March, when the treasure hunt ends.
You can find the balls in mystery locations around the UK, with the pizzeria sharing clues to help you track them down on its Instagram stories. Treasure hunters are invited to share their finds using the hashtag #PE55.
PizzaExpress revealed some of the balls will be hidden in their Deliveroo orders, while some will be secreted in the chain’s ‘Cook At Home’ range, which you can pick up in supermarkets.
If you’re lucky enough to find one, you’ll need to open it to reveal a QR code, scan the code with your phone and then enter the number inside to scoop the prize. But be warned, in previous years, only the first person to find each individual dough ball is able to collect the prize, so if someone has found it and used it before you’re out of luck.
PizzaExpress managing director Zoe Bowley said: “Following last year’s celebration of our iconic dough ball, we’re incredibly excited to be bringing back the hunt for our 55th anniversary.
“With the search for 55 balls culminating on our very own birthday, we hope everyone joins in with what is set to be a truly epic celebration.”
If all this talk of pizza has got you feeling hungry, then why not treat yourself to a popcorn chicken pizza?
This new bizarre combo from KFC and Pizza Hut, which have joined forces to make National Pizza Day one to remember with a popcorn chicken pizza, complete with gravy base.
The new pizza has been created using KFC’s iconic gravy on a classic crust base, with mozzarella cheese topped with fan-favourite popcorn chicken and sprinkled with sweetcorn. OK, yeah, that does sound good.
Choose between a large classic or a large classic with no garlic; both will set you back £18.99.
If you fancy getting your filthy hands on one, don’t hang around as they’re only on sale online via Pizza Hut Delivery from the 3 to 16 February.
