Danniella Westbrook has said she owes her life to her son, after he broke down a bathroom door to rescue her.
The 43-year-old star appeared on Loose Women on Monday with her son Kai to talk about her struggle following her drugs relapse.
The actress, who has been sofa surfing in Merseyside, has struggled since her break-up with George Arnold – admitting she resorted to taking cocaine and other drugs.
Danniella said: “I had such great expectations coming out of Big Brother and I was so poorly, because of the surgery, and I couldn’t work.
“I felt like I was letting everybody down as it was meant to be my year to come back and do things. I relapsed badly and, because of this, George and I split up.
“I see myself getting lower and then I withdraw, withdraw, withdraw and I completely withdraw from myself. I started using again.”
She then detailed how she moved into a hotel, where her son made the grim discovery of his mother unconscious on the floor.
“Kai came over to the hotel I was staying at. He had to put the toilet door through and found me unconscious in the bathroom. I was gone. But, later, seeing the fear in his eyes, I knew. It was enough to get me clean again.”
In a touching moment, she was then shown a recorded message from her son, who was waiting backstage.
He said: “Mum I know you’ve made mistakes but who hasn’t? I’m super proud of you, you’re only human.
“I know a lot of people have always put you down but I know you’ve always had the confidence to get back up. I’m always gonna be there for you no matter what.
“You’re also a big inspiration to me but at the same time can be a huge aggravation to me. I love you loads.”
