Mighty Duck’s star Shaun Weiss, who played goalkeeper Greg Goldberg in the show, has been charged with burglary and being under the influence of methamphetamine.
Weiss was arrested on Sunday 26 January at around 7am, after cops were called out to a burglary in progress in Marysville in California. When they arrived at the scene the homeowner told cops there was a man inside his garage who ‘did not belong there’.
A statement from Marysville Police says that once inside the garage the cops found Weiss inside the homeowner’s car, after he had ‘forced entry to gain access by shattering a window’.
The report goes on to say that Weiss ‘displayed symptoms of being under the influence of methamphetamine’ and admitted that ‘the vehicle he was filtering through was not his’.
Weiss, 41, was booked into Yuba County Jail where he was charged with being under the influence of methamphetamine and residential burglary – he was held on $52,500 (£40,000) bail.
The report concludes: “After further investigation it was determined that Weiss starred in several movies and television series. Officers contacted Weiss at the Yuba County Jail and confirmed he starred in these movies.”
As a child, Weiss appeared in all three Mighty Duck movies as well as a string of TV shows including Freaks and Geeks and Boy Meets World.
This is not the first brush with the law for Weiss. Back in 2017, he was jailed for 150 days for stealing electronics worth $151 (£116).
Speaking at the time, Weiss’ manager, Don Gibble, told Page Six: “Hopefully when [Shaun] gets out he will go to rehab so he can stay sober.
“He hopes jail will help him, and maybe while he is in jail, he will write something.”
He was released just 12 days later, due to overcrowding within the county jail and five days later was arrested again, this time for drugs charges.
He was eventually sentenced to 90 days in jail for possession of suspected methamphetamine.
Back in August 2018, he was arrested in Oroville, northern California for public intoxication.
He was taken to a local jail to sober up but wasn’t formally charged. Following his arrest, Weiss said he would be entering rehab.
