Camera Catches Man Robbing Woman At Gunpoint On Her Own Doorstep

Shocking footage showing a woman being mugged at gunpoint on her own doorstep has been released by police.

The video, which was filmed by a doorbell camera on Tuesday in Oakland, California, shows the woman arriving at the entrance to her apartment block, before a hooded person emerges from the shadows and chases her to her door.

She is thrown violently to the floor as the attacker points a gun at her head.

As she approaches the lights of the entrance, the motion sensor of the Ring security system captures the incident, as well as the image of the mugger.

The terrified woman screams as she collapses to the floor, before noticing the man has a gun – the assailant then seems to panic and runs off as another person appears in the background.

The traumatised victim can be seen crying in the corner of the doorway before getting up, still understandably distressed, and managing to make her way into her home.

A neighbour of the woman told local TV network KTVU: “It’s terrifying. I mean the girl’s screams were just a nightmare come true. I don’t know how she’s going to recover from it.”

A local community group held a meeting after the incident in which some residents complained that police weren’t doing enough to keep the neighbourhood safe.

Speaking at the meeting, another local resident – who lives just a few streets down from the victim – said he got the update on the Nextdoor app.

As reported by KTVU, Derek Krause said: “It terrified my wife to see that, she’s very afraid.”

When the video started circulating on social media, people expressed their concerns for the woman.

One Twitter user replied to the video, saying: “Damn that’s scary. She’s scarred for life.”

Another commented on the footage, tweeting: “Poor woman! I feel so bad for her. We need to be tougher on all types of crime.”

Gun laws in California are some of the strictest in the US, with more than 100 firearm-related rules within the state, meaning the woman most likely didn’t have a gun for self defence, while the attacker was almost certainly breaking local firearms laws.

Over all, firearm-related crime in the area has decreased, with a study by The Guardian showing that gun homicides have decreased by 30 percent in Oakland over the last decade.
