Paddy McGuinness hits back at ‘ignorant tool’ in disabled space row

Take Me Out host Paddy McGuinness has hit back at the ‘ignorant tool’ who had a go at him for using a disabled parking space on a trip out with his children.

Paddy and his wife Christine have six-year-old twins Leo and Penelope who have autism and a three-year-old daughter Felicity who they believe is also on the autistic spectrum.

The comedian says he was dropping his children off at a play centre and had the relevant disability badges on display when he was challenged by the stranger, reports the Manchester Evening News.

He tweeted: “Just had a deep breathe and walk away moment. Dropped my little ones off at a play centre.

“Parked in a disability space while they got out. Had all our relevant disability badges on display only for some b***end to come over and tell us that we don’t look disabled?”

He continued: “I took a deep breathe and sent my children in. Luckily they didn’t understand what was going on.

“Once they’d happily gone in I approached this ignorant tool.

“All I wanted to do was bounce him off every car but there would only be one loser in that, me! #ignorance”

The dad said instead of getting angry he tried to explain that not all disabilities are the same.

“Instead I tried to explain to him that not all disabilities are the same,” he said.

“The ignorance and sheer pomposity of telling someone they don’t look disabled really makes my blood boil! How does someone have to look to have a disability?”

However, support came flooding in for the 46-year-old and Liverpool wife, Christine.

One fan said: “Not all disabilities are visible, really gets on my nerves the lack of people that are unaware of the daily struggles people with all disabilities go through and the families.”

Another wrote: “Disabilities aren’t all visible so it’s a shame people are so ignorant, well done for raising awareness Paddy.”

And another follower tweeted: “I get this all of the time paddy I have fibromyalgia and CFS and hold a blue badge. People look and shake their head but if I’ve got my 79-year-old dad with me no one says a word. Ignore them.”

This summer Paddy and  The Real Housewives of Cheshire  guest star Christine enjoyed their first family holiday with their children after six years planning a trip that would meet the needs of their developmental disorder.

Christine, 31, has uploaded several posts on Instagram talking about the little things she does does to meet her children’s  needs , such as cutting out the labels in their clothes, with many of her followers praising her for her honesty.
