Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker had another crossover you might have missed

The Rise of Skywalker contained a crossover with one Star Wars TV show that we all missed – and no, we’re not talking about Baby Yoda, unfortunately.

Animated TV series Star Wars: Resistance contains a number of ships – it is a Star Wars show, after all – and it turns out some of them actually popped up during Episode IX‘s climactic battle on Exegol.

Lucasfilm Story Group’s Pablo Hidalgo revealed: “”Well, one thing we do know is that among the 14,000 ships that arrive with Lando Calrissian over Exegol in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker are the Fireball, Jarek Yeager’s racer, and Torra Doza’s ship.”

The movie created photo-real versions of the ships, which are of course cel-shaded in the show, to fit in with the live-action setting.

That scene, which also saw Rey hear the voices of past Jedi in her battle against Palpatine, also contained a reference to the first shot in A New Hope too.

“One small nugget that somebody may not have picked up on is that as you fly up through that giant lightning tree and you get up to that top of the tree and she hears the voices of the Jedi, that starfield you’re looking at is exactly the Episode IV starfield,” visual effects supervisor Patrick Tubach previously explained.

“That was very important to JJ [Abrams]. He really wanted to have that moment harking back to the very beginning of Star Wars, and that I think was bringing it all back together.”

We’re sure even more nuggets will emerge in due course.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is out now.
