We’re used to seeing these celebrities in posh frocks, dramatic costumes or glamorous designer labels – depending on the career path they are currently on.
So it will be a bit of a change to see the contestants in this year’s I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here swap their everyday attire for their jungle-style gear as the new series starts on Sunday.
Now, you may or may not have noticed it before, but these outfits actually include a pair of red socks.
Is there a reason for this and, if so, what is it? Well, according to the Mirror Online , there is – and it’s a bit grim.
According to the show’s on-site medic Bob, the reason I’m A Celeb stars wear such a bright shade of red is to stop bleeding insect bites from showing up on camera.
The medic is on-hand seven days a week when the programme airs. He’s tasked with ensuring the show’s 250,000 cockroaches, 153,000 crickets, 2.5 million meal worms, 400 spiders, 500 rats, and 30 snakes don’t do the celebrities any lasting damage.
And, apparently, Bob told magazine Woman’s Own that the cast are given red socks to hide unsettling wounds.
The Mirror Online asked ITV if they had anything more to say about. A spokeswoman said: “We have nothing to add”.
This year’s line-up for I’m a Celebrity was released earlier this week and includes Rebekah Vardy, wife of footballer Jamie Vardy; boxer Amir Khan and Boris Johnson’s dad Stanley Johnson.
Fans of the show will be pleased to see that Geordie duo Ant and Dec are back – ready to mock the celebs as they tuck into bugs and go through other ordeals during the Bushtucker Trials.
But who will be the next King or Queen of the Jungle?
I’m A Celebrity kicks-off this Sunday, November 19, on ITV at 9pm.
