Rebekah Vardy says she has hired forensic IT experts to prove her innocence after a row with Coleen Rooney.
Coleen posted a statement on social media yesterday on how she set up an Instagram trap to catch a ‘close friend’ who was reportedly leaking information to The S*n newspaper.
And in a dramatic finale, she claimed it was from the Instagram account of Rebekah – wife of Leicester City and England striker, Jamie Vardy.
The mum-of-four said she had suspicions for years that someone was sharing stories with the newspaper and so devised a plan to catch the person out.
Coleen said she closed her Instagram Stories to every single one of her followers, except Rebekah Vardy’s account.
She then released three false stories on her Instagram, all of which later appeared in the reviled newspaper.
This led the 33-year-old to conclude the source could only be from Rebekah Vardy’s account.
Rebekah later released her own statement in retaliation denying the claims and calling them “disgusting”, saying that several people had had access to her account over the years.
But speaking to BBC’s Victoria Derbyshire, Rebekah’s representatives said she has hired forensic IT specialists to prove her innocence.
The representatives said specialists are looking at who has been accessing her account and whereabouts it has been accessed from.
A spokesperson for Rebekah Vardy said: “Please refer to Becky’s social media posts.
“It isn’t true, she is now very upset and stressed so has passed it to her legal team to deal with.
“Such a shame that Coleen didn’t just call her when she had her number.”
They also said Rebekah is very upset, saying it was a shame that Coleen didn’t just call her when she had her number.
Rebekah said she is seeking legal advice over Coleen’s claims.
Coleen’s full statement
“Over the past five months I have posted a series of false stories to see if they made their way into the Sun newspaper. And you know what, they did!” Coleen wrote in her statement.
“The story about gender selection in Mexico, the story about returning to TV and then the later story about the basement flooding in my new house.
“It’s been tough keeping it to myself and not making any comment at all, especially when the stories have been leaked, however I had to.
“Now I know for certain which account / individual it’s come from. I have saved and screens hotted all the original stories which clearly show just one person has viewed them.
“It’s……… Rebekah Vardy’s account.”
Rebekah hits back
She wrote back to Coleen on Twitter: “As I have just said to you on the phone, I wish you had called me if you thought this,”
“I never speak to anyone about you as various journalists who have asked me to over the years can vouch for.
“If you thought this was happening you could have told me & I could have changed my passwords to see if it stopped.
“Over the years various people have had access to my insta & just this week I found I was following people I didn’t know and have never followed myself.
“I’m not being funny but I don’t need the money, what would I gain from selling stories on you?
“I liked you a lot Coleen & I’m so upset that you have chosen to do this, especially when I’m heavily pregnant.
“I’m disgusted that I’m even having to deny this. You should have called me the first time this happened.”
