It probably hasn’t escaped your attention that there’s an awful lot of Star Wars content in Fortnite right now. Disney has teamed up with Epic Games to bring all kinds of exclusive bits and bobs to the popular battle royale, including an in-game screening of a scene from the upcoming movie,The Rise of Skywalker.
Since then, we’ve had Star Wars gliders, lightsabers, and even TIE Fighter crash sites hit the battle royale. It’s all been very exciting. Assuming you like Star Wars and/or Fortnite. I imagine you’d be left feeling cold if neither floats your boat – but then why would you be reading this article? Get outta here.
Amazingly, the Star Wars/Fortnite love-in continues this week with even more new content, and a very special guest. Mark Hamill – Luke Skywalker himself – is teaming up with Ninja to show off more in-game content and stream some battle royale action for us. I have no idea if Mark Hamill is any good at Fortnite, but I sure as hell can’t wait to find out.
In the above tweet revealing the stream (taking place on Thursday), Hamill expresses concern that he’ll make a fool of himself in front of Ninja. That’s ridiculous, obviously. Ninja should be worried about embarrassing himself in front of you, mate. You’re Luke goddamn Skywalker.
The most likely scenario is that Hamill ends up being a bit naff at the battle royale while Ninja (who we interviewed a few weeks ago) shows off his skills, but I’m more than happy to sit and watch the Star Wars actor hang out with the mega popular streamer for a bit. Others seem less keen, with some arguing that this is beneath Hamill and that it’s a desperate attempt on Epic’s part to revive a dead game.
I don’t know who needs to hear this, but just because you don’t like Fortnite, that doesn’t mean it’s a “dead game”. It’s still absolutely massive and enjoyed all over the world. That’s why Disney decided to team up with Epic to promote one of the biggest movies of the year. Get over it.
Oh, and while we’re all here: The Last Jedi is the best Star Wars movie.
