‘CoD: Modern Warfare’ Players Say Cranked Is Game’s Best Mode Yet

Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare has proven itself as an immensely popular game since launching at the end of October. Just recently, Activision confirmed that the latest installment is in fact already the most-played CoD this generation, with over 500 million hours and 300 million multiplayer matches played so far.

Despite this, the game hasn’t been without its problems, particularly for veterans of the franchise. In the few months Modern Warfare has been live, one complaint seems to come up more than any other: Camping. Many players are insisting that most of the maps in Infinity Ward’s shooter reward a… sneakier approach, while discouraging more aggressive play. The upshot of this, it seems, has been a surge in campers.

The good news for those that genuinely believe camping in Modern Warfare is a real problem, is that a newly-added mode seems to have eliminated the issue. The fan-favourite Cranked mode was recently introduced to the game, and a number of players are already praising it as an “anti-camping” mode that makes Call of Duty “feel like” Call of Duty again.

If you’re unfamiliar, Cranked is a mode which first appeared in Call Of Duty: Ghosts and then Infinite Warfare. Activision describes it as a “fast-paced, high-octane Deathmatch where players race against the clock to get kills or suffer an explosive fate”. Basically, the idea is to get stuck in and get more kills than any other player to come out on top.

Naturally, you’d assume that a mode that focuses on purely aggressive play would hardly reward camping, and that seems to be exactly the result Cranked has achieved. A good number of the CoD community seem to be pretty chuffed about it too, with many expressing their hope that the “refreshing” mode sticks around.

Unfortunately, the latest update hasn’t gone down entirely smoothly with the Modern Warfare community. Some are complaining that Shipment – a returning map from the original Modern Warfare – has been “completely ruined”.

Angry players have taken to Twitter to point out that the famously tight and chaotic map is suffering from spawning problems. They claim that it’s nearly impossible to get your bearings after respawning without being killed, thanks to the map’s small size.

The game’s Piccadilly map also suffered a similar issue for the first month after launch, with players being dropped into the middle of firefights with no way to get to cover before being blown away.

The Piccadilly spawn issue was addressed in an update last month, so hopefully it won’t be too long before Shipment gets the same treatment. At least we can all enjoy Cranked together, eh?
