A teen mom confessed to police that she buried her newborn daughter inside a flower pot in a Texas cemetery, authorities said this week.
Carrollton Police said Monday that an 18-year-old woman is claiming she’s the mother of the infant, discovered March 11 at Perry Cemetery with her umbilical cord still attached.
A groundskeeper “emptied what he knew to be an out of place flowerpot and discovered the body of a deceased infant beneath the pot’s soil,” officials said.
The newborn was a full-term girl and weighed just under six pounds when discovered at Perry Cemetery, which is about 20 miles northwest of Dallas.
The mother — whose name wasn’t released — contacted authorities after seeing news coverage, according to police. She is cooperating with the investigation, they said.
No charges have been filed against the teen.
“Detectives are still investigating the circumstances, awaiting test results, and awaiting consultation with the Dallas County District Attorney’s office,” police said.
