Mark Hamill slams Rep. Senator for using Luke Skywalker image to mock Green New Deal

Star Wars” actor Mark Hamill was not on board with a Republican Senator that used an image of his iconic Luke Skywalker character to make a point against the Green New Deal.

The “Knightfall” actor responded to Utah Sen. Mike Lee who used an image of Luke Skywalker atop a tauntaun on the ice planet Hoth in “The Empire Strikes Back” to mock Democrats’ proposed Green New Deal on Capitol Hill. During his speech, he claimed that airplanes would be a thing of the past under the deal’s regulations and suggested that travel to and within Alaska could be achieved through use of a tauntaun.

“Not only are tauntauns carbon-neutral, but according to one report ‘a long time ago’ and ‘far, far away,’ they may even be fully recyclable for their warmth on especially cold nights,” Lee mocked.

In addition to the image of Skywalker, Lee also used a portrait of Ronald Reagan shooting a gun atop a velociraptor and a picture of Aquaman in an effort to address The Green New Deal with “the seriousness it deserves.”

Hamill took to Twitter where he admitted that he initially thought the image he saw of Lee discussing tauntauns was photoshopped.

“I was foolish to think this was photoshopped. Had I recognized that this guy was a Republican, I would have instantly realized this was his argument against Global Warming. #CongressSmellsBadOnTheInside,” the star wrote.

He wasn’t done there, responding the following day to someone asking if he’d seen the speech to Congress. Hamill took the opportunity to double down on his criticism.

“I did see that crap. Don’t worry about it! I’m using an oversized photo of @SenMikeLee as a prop to push my #MAGA (#MoronsAlwaysGaslightAmericans) #TrustTheScientists agenda. #ClimateChange,” Hamill wrote.

Hamill, who is not shy about decrying Donald Trump and Republicans on social media, will reprise his role as Skywalker once again in the upcoming ninth installment in the “Star Wars” franchise – not including “Rogue One” and “Solo.”
