Remembering a record-tying game as Capitals and Panthers meet again Saturday night

After a rocky January for the Capitals that included a seven-game losing streak, the second month has gone a lot more smoothly for the defending champs. Winners of three of the last four, Washington is currently riding a modest two-game winning streak into Saturday’s game.

The last of those wins came on Thursday against the Colorado Avalanche, in which the Capitals escaped with a 4-3 win in overtime. The victory was in large part due to the performance of Evgeny Kuznetsov. The center scored two goals on the night, including the game-winner with less than a minute left in the extra period.

Now, the Capitals will look to push the winning streak to three against the Panthers. Florida is coming off an impressive win of its own, a 3-2 overtime win against Pittsburgh on Thursday.

Here’s everything you need to know about the Saturday night matchup, which takes place at 7:00 p.m. ET on NBC Sports Washington.

CAPITALS vs. PANTHERS HOW TO WATCH

Evgeny Kuznetsov, C, Capitals: As mentioned above, Kuznetsov is coming off a strong performance on Thursday in which he netted two goals and a total of three points. Besides a goose egg against the Bruins last Sunday, Kuznetsov has tallied at least a point in four of his last five games. In three of those games, he had at least two points. While Ovechkin continues to be Washington’s best source of offense, contributions from Kuznetsov and others will be key in helping the Capitals continuing their winning ways.

Mike Hoffman, LW, Panthers: Florida’s leading goal scorer on the season, Hoffman has netted 24 goals in 52 games this season. However, he hasn’t done much as of late, scoring just once in his last five contests. With Florida looking to come in a pull off the upset, having their top goal-scorer get in on the action could be necessary.
