Boston police captain accused of assaulting wife

BOSTON (CNN) – A Boston police captain appeared in court in a Quincy courtroom Friday, accused of assaulting his wife.

53-year-old Timothy Connelly is a captain with the Boston Police Department. He was arrested Thursday after an incident at his Milton home.

Phuong Bui, Connelly’s wife, testified in court in an effort to obtain a restraining order against her husband.

The pair, in the midst of getting a divorce.

“He said ‘I’m going to blow. You better tell me where my stuff is.”

She claims a verbal fight escalated into violence. Connelly allegedly shoved his wife and smacked the back of her head.

“It’s one thing to push and shove me and … me but. I looked at him, I’m like ‘you hit me, you hit me. You crossed the line.'”

Timothy Connelly did not comment, but told investigators he did not assault his wife.

His lawyer says the charges are a result of a heated breakup.

“Do I think it was a tit for tat and foolish fight? Absolutely. Did he have domestic violence, was he threatened to kill her? No. They’ve been together for 13 years. Read between the lines.”

Boston police say Connelly has been placed on administrative desk duty, pending an internal affairs investigation.
