Whether you are planning a Super Bowl party or going to one, it’s always a good idea to think of some great kid-friendly activities. Not only will the kiddos have a lot of fun, they will also be occupied, which may free up some time for you to play host/hostess or simply relax and watch the game.
Here are a few tips to keep kids occupied during the big game:
Make pom-poms: Cut 12-inch strips of streamers or ribbons and staple them together at one end. Wrap the stapled end with duct tape to protect little hands and create a handle and voila!
Games galore: Designate a game room in another part of the house. This can include putting out board games or, if you have a game system, you can pair the kids in teams and have a tournament.
Have an indoor football game: All you need is a small football and yellow piece of cloth for a game of “Find It.” Have one child hide the object and whoever finds it can hide it next.
Commercial Play: For the kids who want to hang out and watch the game, how about a game of Commercial Bingo? You can also play a football trivia game.
Of course, snacks will also keep them happy and busy. Some fun ideas (that the adults will also enjoy) include:
Nacho bar: Put out all the fixings (sour cream, chives, olives, cheese, etc.) and let them pile it up!
Popcorn bar: Pop up a big bowl of plain popcorn and offer a variety of flavor shakers. Assuming there are no allergies, you can even put out a few bowls of add-ins like Peanut M&M’s, honey roasted nuts or dried fruit.
Beverage bar: If you have a Soda Stream machine, set up a soda station. The kids love to mix flavors. Don’t forget the maraschino cherries and straws!
No matter what you do, don’t walk in front of the TV during a big play or highly-anticipated commercial and fun will be had by all!
