Manager, Social Content and Strategy

The Ringer seeks a Manager, Social Content and Strategy, to join its Los Angeles–based social team. The ideal candidate will be a driven professional who is looking to lead social content creation across sports, pop culture, and tech. We want someone who can manage employees, and use an understanding of insights and analytics to take a lead role in social content strategy. Strong writing skills and a sharp editorial eye are required, and extensive knowledge of social and digital media is a necessity. The ability to work creatively within a team and to lead it through the ideation process of content production is paramount. Familiarity with existing social content platforms (Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, YouTube) is required, as is the ability to expand original content creation in line with how The Ringer differentiates itself from the competition.

Responsibilities

  • Directly managing members of the social content team
  • Establishing quantifiable growth and engagement goals for the team alongside the Senior Director and Head of Production
  • Take the lead on both programmatic and reactive content across all of The Ringer’s social platforms, including further development of original, programmatic, social-first content franchises
  • Continue to develop and hone the voice of The Ringer for each platform
  • Establish a formal audience engagement plan through community management
  • Act as lead producer on a range of video and design projects, from pre-production through content distribution strategy across our various platforms
  • Plan pre-production and supply research for social video content
  • Operate mobile studio or field production equipment as necessary
  • Oversee weekly staff, production, and content scheduling
  • Most importantly, make smart, creative, shareable work you’re proud of
  • Handle direct-to-social content distribution for Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube
  • Identify potential areas of growth across existing audio, video, and editorial Ringer properties
  • Develop relationships and create partnership opportunities beyond our existing Ringer universe with a focus on growth and audience development

Requirements

  • 3-5 years’ experience in social content creation and content distribution
  • Experience managing a team of direct reports, including focus on employee development
  • A passion for and extensive understanding of The Ringer’s content
  • Proficiency in social media content strategy and audience development
  • Proficiency in producing shareable and engaging social-first content, explainers, and real-time reactive video
  • Working knowledge of sports, pop culture, and tech, including but not limited to current events and relevant historical context
  • Basic familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite, specifically Premiere and Photoshop, with a focus on developing these skills
  • Capacity to work and react quickly in a digital news environment
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines and thrive under pressure, which may involve working evenings and weekends
  • Deep understanding of news and story lines, with sound journalistic ethics and judgment
  • Strong writing skills, including a capacity for SEO-friendly headlines and descriptions
  • Collaborative personality with strong communication skills
  • A desire to be challenged and to improve
