Fearne Cotton has hit back at reports of her strained marriage to Jesse Wood with a makeup-free selfie – revealing her self-worth has nothing to do with how she looks.
Just days after describing a rough patch in her relationship with her rocker husband in her Red magazine column, Fearne revealed she’s feeling “brilliant” about getting older.
She shared an au naturel snap of herself after detailing a two-hour screaming match in the park that left her and Jesse wondering if they could carry on together.
“Hairs a bit nesty, I’m pale as f**k, haven’t had time to even think about make up but the joy is at 37 my self worth is not steeped in the aesthetic,” she captioned the Instagram shot.
“I may love wearing makeup, dressing up for a night out etc but it’s not where my personal value lies. It’s built on my curiosity, connection with others, passions and pitfalls. Getting older feels rather brilliant.”
The TV and radio presenter also sought to downplay her own comments about marriage by sharing a picture of Reef guitarist Jesse pulling her face towards his for an affectionate kiss.
She also thanked him on her Instagram Story for taking charge of their two children – Rex, five, and Honey, three – while she got in a quick yoga session at home.
“Since having kids my whole exercise thing has changed, I don’t have time to get to classes anymore,” she told the camera.
“A massive thank you to my husband Jesse, we’re tag-teaming right now. He’s playing Sylvanian Families with Honey while I do yoga. He just did a Richie Norton yoga class while Honey and I were dashing round town, so it’s a good bit of parental tag-teaming. We both got our yoga in for the day so we are happy.”
And, imploring followers to read her magazine column rather than the reports around it, she added: “We are happily married and like every other couple have arguments. Boring really. It’s all very normal round here.”
It came after she revealed how Jesse’s constant touring with his band had left their marriage on the brink.
“This year, Jesse and I hit a rough patch – he was away, touring relentlessly, I was trying to keep my own career going while looking after our kids and we were both desperately clinging on to our marriage,” she wrote.
“One blustery and grey day, this culminated in a screaming match in our local park, which lasted about two hours until we both broke and cried.
“In the midst of this gargantuan row, I think we both wondered where the love had gone and worried that it might not come back.”
Luckily, Fearne went on, the couple were able to talk things through and “broke through the s**t bit” to find an “even deeper king of love”.
“We knew each other that bit better, we respected each other that bit more,” she added.
“In that moment, we both stopped to remember that we are passionate in these situations because we care deeply.”
Fearne and Jesse married in a simple and intimate wedding ceremony in 2014 attended by stars including Keith Lemon, Jesse’s dad Ronnie Wood, Denise van Outen and Holly Willoughby.
