Player of the Week: Mississippi State’s Teaira McCowan tied the Gamecocks rebounding total on her own with 24 boards, including 12 on the offensive glass. She scored in double figures for the 17th time this season, leading all scorers with 26 points. It marked the fifth time in her career that she has scored 20-plus points and grabbed 20-plus rebounds in the same game. She was a key part of MSU collecting the offensive rebound on 64 percent of its misses against the Gamecocks.
Freshman of the Week: Auburn’s Robyn Benton scored eight points off the bench in the Tigers’ come-from-behind win at Vanderbilt on Jan. 17. She made the game-winning basket with 8.6 seconds left when she hit a jumper from 12 feet to give Auburn a 71-70 lead, drawing a foul and making the free throw as well. Five of Benton’s eight points – her best total in SEC play – came in the second half as Auburn rallied from a 20-point deficit, the largest deficit overcome in an SEC game since 2003.
