Fulham have been languishing in the bottom three of the English Premier League for much of the season. They had spent a lot of money in the summer transfer window after gaining promotion from the Championship. But manager Slavisa Jokanovic could not get his Fulham side to perform and was sacked subsequently. Premier League-winning manager Claudio Ranieri was appointed to get them out of the relegation zone and would have definitely liked his players to play like warriors and get the results.
But top-scorer Aleksandar Mitrovic took it too far. Mitrovic in the 74th minute, performed a WWE-style manoeuvre on Tottenham’s Davinson Sanchez. Trying to get the ball back from Sanchez, a frustrated Mitrovic went ahead and performed a DDT wrestling move right at the touchline. Both the players were in a constant battle throughout the match at Craven Cottage and maybe the pressure of winning the game got to the Serbian. With the scores level, Mitrovic let the situation get to him and that resulted in both the players receiving yellow cars. The Fulham striker was extremely fortunate to avoid a red for the horror tackle.
Here are two videos of the incident-
The fans were in splits after the incident and took to social media to discuss Mitrovic’s actions-
The game was tied 1-1 till the 90th minute after a Fernando Llorente own goal had given Fulham the lead and Dele Alli had equalized for Tottenham. But Harry Winks popped up with an injury-time winner that saw Tottenham snatch all three points against the home side.
Fulham are in languishing in 19th position in the Premier League with just 14 points from 23 matches. They remain seven points behind 17th-placed Newcastle and would look to arrest the situation if want to avoid the drop.
Fulham invested heavily in their squad in the summer transfer window. They were Premier League’s third biggest investors in the window with a net spend of close to £100 million. Players like Luciano Vietto, Jean-Michael Seri and Andre Schurrle came in with investment from owner Shahid Khan. They desperately need a win in their next match against Brighton at home on 30 January if they want to stay in the Premier League.
