Virginia rises, Virginia Tech drops in new AP poll | Courtside

Virginia moved up one spot and Virginia Tech fell one spot in the new Associated Press Top 25 men’s basketball poll today.

The Cavaliers rose to No. 3 after beating Virginia Tech and losing at Duke. The Hokies dropped to No. 10 after losing at UVa and beating Wake Forest.

Tennessee is the new No. 1, rising three spots and getting 48 first-place votes and 1,575 points. Duke dropped a spot to No. 2, getting 11 first-place votes and 1,520 points. UVa has three first-place votes and 1,451 points.

Gonzaga rose a spot to No. 4, with Michigan falling three spots to No. 5.

Nevada moved up three spots to No. 7. Kentucky moved up four spots to No. 8. Kansas dropped two spots to No. 9.

Texas Tech fell from No. 8 to No. 14.

North Carolina, which hosts the Hokies tonight, moved up two spots to No. 11.

Louisville, Iowa State and LSU joined the Top 25.

Florida State, Oklahoma and Indiana dropped out.

The top 25 teams in The Associated Press’ college basketball poll, with records, total points based on 25 points for a first-place vote through one point for a 25th-place vote, first-place votes and last week’s ranking:
