Is your parlour didi using genuine makeup products? | Patna News

[ad_1]

According to several researches and surveys, the average woman spends approximately 11 minutes a day putting on makeup. And why not? There’s no reason you should feel guilty about it. And the fashionistas of Patna are not far behind. No wonder cosmetics shops in the city are doing good business. Few markets in the city are known for selling cosmetics at heavy discounts. People go there in large numbers to purchase various brands at dirt cheap rates. Surprised? The items sold there are fake.

Popular markets for fake cosmetics
Patna City market and Churi Market are popular hubs for fake cosmetics products. Around 50%-60% of the products are supplied to the parlours. Sarvesh Kumar, a cosmetic shop owner at Churi Market, said, “We source the products from a factory near Marufganj in Patna City. My customers are mostly ladies and parlour owners. If the products are bought in bulk, we offer heavy discounts, sometimes more that 50%. All types of cosmetics, ranging from MAC, Maybelline, Lotus, Revlon and Lakme, are available here.”

Another shop owner, Kamlesh Kumar, said, “We buy products from Patna City as the prices are low and the quality is same as the originals. In fact, some of the online sellers also buy products from us.”

Heavy discounts lure customers

Generally, customers who buy these products, only care about brand names and discounts. Most of them do not bother to think why these products are available at such low cost — and thus become victims of these fake-product sellers. Rajni Jha, a parlour owner at Phulwari Sharif, said, “I purchase almost all the cosmetics from Patna City as the sellers claim that products are authentic and genuine. They offer us discounts because dealers supply them at low rates. If we don’t buy makeup items on discount, then our parlour will run at a loss.”

Fake cosmetics affect nervous system

According to doctors and beauty experts, fake cosmetics contain mercury, which affects our nervous system, digestive and immune systems, lungs, kidneys, skin and eyes. Dr Rashmi, a city-based dermatologist, said, “Every day, I treat around 15-20 patients suffering from skin diseases caused by reactions to fake cosmetics. Itching and blisters are common problems that are caused due to application of cheap cosmetics. I keep suggesting to everyone that one should not use cosmetics every day. And if at all they have to, they must buy authentic products from reputed shops.”

Sharing similar views, Sanju, a beauty consultant, said, “If a seller gives you a discount above 50% every time, then it is certain that the particular product is fake and toxic. People should never use it as it may harm your body.”
