SWS: Pinoys don’t want same-sexThe Social Weather Stations (SWS) on Saturday revealed that 61 percent of adult Filipinos disagree while 22 percent agree that there should be a law allowing the civil union of same-sex couples. According to the 2018 first quarter survey results, of the 61% of the respondents who disagreed, 44% strongly disagreed and 17% somewhat disagreed. Meanwhile, of the 22% who agreed, 8% strongly agreed and 14% somewhat agreed. The remaining 16% were undecided about the matter. Conducted from March 23 to 27, 2018, the results gave the survey a net agreement score of -40, classified by SWS as "very weak." The SWS survey also revealed that opposition to civil union of two men or two women was dominant in all areas, with the lowest net agreement score from the Visayas at a very weak -45 (21% agree, 66% disagree), followed by Balance Luzon at a very weak -42 (20% agree, 63% disagree, correctly rounded), Mindanao at a very weak -38 (21% agree, 58% disagree, correctly rounded), and Metro Manila at a moderately weak -27 (29% agree, 56% disagree). In terms of religion, the survey found that net agreement was lowest among the Iglesia ni Cristo at an extremely weak -64 (11% agree, 74% disagree, correctly rounded), followed by members of other Christian denominations at an extremely weak -55 (15% agree, 70% disagree), Muslims at a very weak -48 (12% agree, 60% disagree), and Roman Catholics at a very weak -36 (24% agree, 60% disagree). The SWS indicated that the participants of the survey were composed of 66% of men who are married, 20% have never married, 11% have live-in partners, and 4% are singles who are either widowed, separated or divorced. While among women, 54% are married, 19% have live-in partners, 15% are singles who are either widowed, separated or divorced, and 12% have never married. The survey added that opposition to the civil union of a same-sex couple was strongest among single men who are either widowed, separated or divorced, with an extremely weak net agreement score of -70 (7% agree, 77% disagree). Also, net agreement was very weak among married men at -49 (18% agree, 67% disagree), married women at -45 (20% agree, 65% disagree), single women who are either widowed, separated or divorced at -37 (22% agree, 59% disagree), and single women who never married at -30 (21% agree, 51% disagree). The survey was moderately weak among women with live-in partners at ?27 (31% agree, 58% disagree), men with live-in partners at -25 (33% agree, 58% disagree), and single men who never married at -18 (28% agree, 46% disagree). — MDM, GMA Newslosha - www.losha.netlosha - www.losha.net
